Tama Wagner has been a member of Team Heartland since November 2002. Most recently, Tama served as Team Leader of Marketing/Communications. Tama played a key role in helping build the Team Heartland internal culture by fostering a new era of open communication with vehicles such as Team Heartland meetings with Mark Laney, MD, President and CEO, Heartland huddles with Dr. Laney, Caregiver Opinion Link and Heartland TV.
To address community health risk factors such as obesity and inactivity, Tama sought out partnerships in the community and with physicians to develop and implement highly successful community wellness programs such as the Pound Plunge, the 4th Grade Challenge, the Men's Tune-up and Women's Wellness Initiatives.
Before coming to Heartland Health, Tama served as the press secretary to Kathleen Sebelius, former Kansas Insurance Commissioner/Governor and Sally Thompson, former Kansas State Treasurer. Having a diverse background that includes health care, state government, politics, historic preservation advocacy and journalism, Tama is recognized as an agent of change in these arenas. In 2007, she was recognized in the community as a YWCA Woman of Excellence, possessing character traits that are desirable for community action.
Tama earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism in 1983 from Kansas State University and a Master of Business Administration from Baker University.
