2014 Pound Plunge – Little changes added up

THIS IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE 2014 POUND PLUNGE THAT TOOK PLACE JANUARY - MARCH OF 2014.

The K-JO 105.5 Pound Plunge presented by Heartland Health is a FREE 12-week healthy lifestyle program. Participants weigh in once a week and those who have the highest percentage of weight loss after 12 weeks win some great prizes, along with getting healthier. This year, more than 1,600 people participated and lost more than 10,000 pounds. Over the nine years of this popular program, St. Joseph and the surrounding area has lost more than 100,000 pounds.

The Community Health Needs Assessment we completed this year identified adult and childhood obesity as one of the health needs in our community. This is just one reason why the Pound Plunge is so important to the vitality of our community.
Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight affects almost every aspect of an individual’s life: blood pressure, medication reduction, joint health, mobility and balance and overall quality of life, just to name a few. However, it also affects the intangible aspects that improve, such as having more confidence, enjoying time with family and friends and the joy felt from living a healthy lifestyle.

Heartland Health strives to make St. Joseph and the surrounding area the healthiest place in America to live a healthy and productive life. The Pound Plunge is one of our programs that helps achieve this goal.
