Ambassador and Auxiliary Services

Ambassador and Auxiliary Services offers people of all ages a way to use their time, talent and treasure at Mosaic Life Care.  Multiple locations and positions are available for volunteers, including the St. Joseph Medical Center-St. Joseph, MO, Northwest Medical Center-Albany, MO and Hospice. Our volunteers or “Ambassadors” generously give to Mosaic Life Care through various acts of kindness.

Program requirements

  • Must be at least 14 years of age
  • Must complete a two-step tuberculosis (TB) screening (provided free of charge)
  • Must obtain a flu shot during flu season (provided free of charge)
  • Must complete mandatory online orientation
  • Minimum time commitment of 50 hours and at least 6 months (may vary per assignment)
  • Regular weekly 4-hour shift (as applicable)

Volunteers are a vital part of our hospital; therefore, we ask for a minimum of one consecutive four-hour shift per week for a minimum of 50 hours in 6 months (this may vary depending on your volunteer placement). We also require ongoing performance and safety training to keep our volunteers safe and secure in their role.

Time

Ambassadors give of their time in traditional roles to help our team of caregivers provide the best and safest care. You may be lending experience you have from a previous profession (such as administrative skills) or your heart and mind (as a patient visitor).

Talent

Ambassadors share special skills or talents to provide positive distractions for our patients and visitors. Animal Assisted Activities are provided by our Patient Pet Pal Partner teams who are registered through petpartners.org. Music therapy, massage techniques, Healing HeARTs art activities are just a few of the programs that bring joy and relaxation to our guests. Many retired professionals also support Mosaic Life Care with their knowledge and business experience in various departments.

Treasure

In 2013, the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries named the Medical Center Auxiliary its Auxiliary of the Year (for auxiliaries with more than 300 supporters). For the past 80 years, the Auxiliary has blessed the organization. It has created scholarships for students entering the medical field, provided equipment to the medical center and sponsored many special projects.

The benefits of becoming a Volunteer Ambassador are limitless — you will have the chance to “give back” while making a difference in others’ lives. Whether you are young and looking for ways to explore the health–care field or an empty–nester exploring uses of your time — becoming a Volunteer Ambassador is a great way to make new friends — FOR LIFE.

The auxiliary supports the Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, which does everything from provide soft, cotton terry robes to patients who are undergoing treatment to aiding women who need financial help to receive treatment.
