Overview

Beta-thalassemia is a type of inherited blood disorder caused by gene mutations. It is marked by less hemoglobin and fewer red blood cells in the blood than normal. This can cause anemia.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include fatigue, weakness, and paleness.

Treatments

Treatments include blood transfusions and medication. Severe cases may need a stem cell transplant.
