Hydrops fetalis

Overview

Hydrops fetalis occurs when extra fluid builds up in 2 or more places inside a fetus or newborn. Causes can be blood type incompatibility with the mother, heart or lung conditions, anemia, or a developmental condition.

Symptoms

Symptoms include trouble breathing, bruising, and heart failure.

Treatments

Treatment can include medications and blood transfusions.
