Overview

Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) is a contagious, sometimes fatal respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus. It's spread mostly among people who are in close contact.

Symptoms

Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath, and pneumonia. Other symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Treatments

Treatment includes rest, fluids, pain relievers, and oxygen therapy in severe cases.
