When to make a doctor’s appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Persistent
  • Accompanied by nighttime snoring or pauses in breathing, especially in someone overweight
  • Interferes with work or relationships
  • Unable to complete daily tasks
  • Lasting sadness or feeling down

Self-care

Get enough sleep, and try to keep a regular sleep schedule. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and avoiding caffeine in the evening also may help.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Chest pain, a racing heart, or shortness of breath
  • Abnormal bleeding
  • Feeling faint
  • Severe pain
