Overview

Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic inflammatory disease occurring when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. Lupus can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.

Symptoms

Symptoms can periodically get worse (flare) and then improve.
