Trochanteric bursitis

Overview

Trochanteric bursitis may affect the outer area, or outside part of the upper leg, from the hip to the knee along the thigh.

Symptoms

Lying on the affected side, sitting with the affected leg crossed, prolonged standing, or running can increase the pain.

Treatments

Treatments include ice, anti-inflammatory medications, steroid injections, and physical therapy. Weight loss might help.
